Day in the life of an Entrepreneur

Day in the life of an Entrepreneur

Today I wanted to tell you a little about my dad the entrepreneur. My family is full of Entrepreneurs. My grandfather, my father, both my sisters, and myself. My father’s name is Allen Bass. He has always loved to be his own boss. I guess that is where I get it from. lol He owns a new and used furniture store called A. J. Sales that started out as a flea market. In essence though it is still really just a flea market but he does sell new products as well.Dad working

Now just to explain, here in Mississippi, a second hand store is known as a flea market. In other states, a flea market is where a bunch of different vendors come together and sell things. I only say that because I have had many people ask me in the past how my father could own a flea market. Unless I mean that he owns the land that it is held upon so I just wanted to clear that up first. Some people think that a flea market is like a thrift store but it is not. A thrift store is usually where everything they sell is donated.

My father went from working out of a van, selling on the side of the road to owning multiple different stores at a time. He worked night and day to build up a pretty good size business. He has taught me and my sisters a lot about business. He also does recycling in his business. That is how he has survived when so many other businesses have come and gone. He utilizes everything; like scrap metal, glass, copper, and even cardboard & paper. Now there are quite a few more things in there as well but I can’t give away all his secrets. He might not like that too much. lol

Now I kept outside the business best I could because the flea market business is just not my thing. Sorry Dad. But my dad has always pushed for me and my sisters to find what we want in life and run with it. I like the freedom of an internet business because I love to travel. So unfortunately I will not be taking over the business if my dad decides to retire. Again, sorry Dad. He wants me to take up the business but he understands if I don’t want to. I do a lot to help him with the business though. I do his electrical work, book keeping, and some other technical things that he needs done.

Just the other day I was helping him send off a load of cardboard and thought about making a post about it. He ships the cardboard off by the truckload so I asked if I could get a picture of me, Kem (the truck driver), and my dad next to the load. Here is that picture:

That is me on the Left, Kem the Truck Driver in the middle, and My Dad (Allen Bass) on the Right.

Well I hope you enjoyed the post and now you know a little more about me and my family of entrepreneurs. Have a wonderful day and here’s to your success.
